Fortum completes EUR 9 mln investment

Fortum is a Finnish state-owned energy company headquartered in Espoo. It has entered Polish market in 2003 and in 2019 the company had approx. 560 employees in Poland. Fortum is located in Wrocław and has 3 plants - in Częstochowa, Zabrze and Bytom. The company has installed a new flue gas cleaning system at the heat and power plant in Częstochowa. The installation of the bag filters system cost PLN 41 mln (EUR 9 mln). The investment means a reduction in emissions of harmful substances. As a result, the CHP plant meets the latest European emission standards with a large excess.

The implementation of the project started in November 2020. Fortum reported that the effect of the modernization was a fifteen-fold decrease in hydrogen chloride emissions, a two-fold reduction in sulfur oxide emissions and an almost two-fold reduction of dust into the atmosphere. On a different note, Polish PGE will issue over 300.7 mln new shares, thanks to which it will receive an injection of nearly PLN 3.2 (EUR 0.71) bln. Could it be for Fortum's assets in Poland, which PGE had a taste for together with PGNiG back in 2020?
